WaterfordDegree/Certificate:
General Studies, A.S.Year of Graduation:
2021I am the first in my family to earn a college degree.
YesI wanted to earn my degree because:
Nelson Mandela said, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Being a lifelong learner and a collector of knowledge is critical in life and I needed to prove to myself that one is never too old to pursue a dream!
While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:
Sasha, Sam and Phi, my three amazing kids, as well as my PepsiCo family, Brian, Daniel, Shelley and Megan.
I’d like to give a shout out to:
Kevin Kelly, for never doubting that my going back to school was the right move! Kevin, I am so grateful for helping me with the registration process, class selection and advice. You ROCK!
Nick, my TA, for spending almost every Thursday night helping me edit photos in Photoshop! You rock, Nick!
What I like best about my degree program and what it means to me is:
The Associate in General Studies is the first step towards finishing my bachelor's degree. Coming back to school after thirty years was intimidating, so to finish with honors felt like an amazing accomplishment. I loved the variety of classes and the passion with which my professors developed their curriculum.
What I enjoyed most about my experience at Three Rivers Community College was:
The people. My professors and the administration were so encouraging, and were always there to lift me up when it felt hard to continue. Working full time, being a single parent of three and managing full-time classwork was a stretch for me. Having the support of my professors was critical to my success.
Clubs, volunteer work, organizations that I participated in while at Three Rivers included:
Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society
I plan to use my degree to:
Advance my career at PepsiCo! I also plan to use my degree to remind my kids that I finished college while working full time during a pandemic, so they have NO excuses!!
Now that I have completed college, I’m most looking forward to:
Going for a walk after work and taking photographs instead of buckling down to homework and papers every night!
What I’ll miss most about Three Rivers is:
The fact that I never got to step onto the campus and really feel the energy of a higher ed institution. Because of the global pandemic, my experience was virtual.
Thanks for the “shout out”, Svet, but it was YOU that made the sacrifices, juggled the duties & pushed through to EARN the degree – Congrats!! 🙂
