Three Rivers College Foundation Enacts Emergency Funding for Student Laptops during COVID-19 Crisis
Norwich ̶ The Three Rivers College Foundation Board, in partnership with Three Rivers Community College convened to enact emergency measures and approved $57,000 to purchase Chromebooks and Windows laptops to assist TRCC students and faculty during the COVID-19 crisis. These laptops will be available for loan.
As the College migrates learning to an online platform, it has created significant issues for many of our most vulnerable students. Many students have relied entirely on the onsite computer labs at TRCC and do not have access to similar technology at home.
TRCF Board President, Bill Stanley shares, “With uncertainty facing many in our communities, the TRC Foundation is prepared to offer assistance to students and faculty in need immediately. We will support academic success by putting the necessary tools directly into the hands of our hardworking students. We believe in Three Rivers’ students and their ability to succeed, even in trying times.”
The TRCF understand that time is of the essence and is moving forward with distribution beginning within the next few weeks. TRCF Board Vice-President, Chris Jewell, stated “The TRC Foundation is an actively engaged board comprised of members that live and work in Southeastern Connecticut. We understand the hardship many of our students face during this difficult time. Reliable access to technology is a luxury many of our students do not currently have and our hope is that this laptop purchase allows students to focus on building a better future for themselves, their families and our shared community through education.”
Students in need of a laptop may apply for consideration by completing a web form at www.threerivers.edu/coronavirus/student-support/.
