Liberal Arts and Sciences, A.A.Year of Graduation:
2021I wanted to earn my degree because:
I've finally figured out what I want to be when I grow up, a Sexuality Educator and Therapist. This is just one step towards obtaining my certifications and future degrees.
While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:
My husband and children as well as many of our friends. It's been an incredible journey taking on college, especially during a pandemic!
I’d like to give a shout out to:
Everyone that had to deal with my face in books and the fun stresses college life brings with it. Big shout out must be given to the Student Programs Office and our student run clubs. Regardless of the uncertainty and the restrictions faced, they still made a point to help give some kind of normal college experience through out everything this pandemic had to throw at us.
I must also give a shout out to my friend Linda N. for her wisdom, encouragement and advise. While it all started with a simple nudge to "just take one class," it was the nudge I needed to tackle the unknown and prove Fear wrong. ~ Thank you!
What I like best about my degree program and what it means to me is:
I really liked the flexibiltiy that came with earning my Liberal Arts Degree. Being able to pick classes that align better with my end goal while simultantiously offering alternative areas of study.
What I enjoyed most about my experience at Three Rivers Community College was:
I would say being part of student life and clubs. Sadly, Clubs took a hit during the pandemic and the ability to hold functions was greatly altered, but it's the members of these student run groups and the Students Program office. I met some pretty amazing people and While I am moving on, I see long term connections carrying forward.
Clubs, volunteer work, organizations that I participated in while at Three Rivers included:
I took on the role of President for Students Advocating for Gender Equality (S.A.G.E) club in my first semester at Three Rivers in the Fall of 2019. All former members had graduated the prior spring semester, leaving this club dormant and in need of some direction. I was excited to take this one and hoped to rebuild S.A.G.E before I had to move on however no one saw a Global Pandemic coming. Here's to hoping there is enough forward momentum and interest to keep S.A.G.E active and involved in the coming 2021 semester. I am also a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society.
In 2019 while taking on a full case load of classes, I volunteered to help my dear friend reach her one of her own life time goals to break a world record! For several cold windy days in October 2019, myself and an army of people turned out in Woonsocket, Rhode Island to link all of the bras together. After more than ten years of collecting bras and donations to raise awareness for Breast Cancer, On October 16, 2019 my dear friend Jennifer Jolicourer, creator of The Athena's Cup, broke the world record with an official count of 196,564 bras totaling 120 miles of bras!!
I plan to use my degree to:
This degree is a building block towards my goal of becoming a certified sexuality and pleasure advocate. My big dream goal is to establish a health and wellness center focused around human sexuality education and therapy services.
I wanna be Dr. Ruth with a little bit of Roz Faulker mixed in ~ #HawaiiByFiveO
Now that I have completed college, I’m most looking forward to:
Moving into the next phase of my journey, I will attending Eastern Connecticut State University to begining working twoards my Bachelors in Women and Gender's Studies.
If I have learned anything in my years on this Earth, it's that you can plan as much as you would like, but you will never be prepared for the new opportunities that develop along the way. While I have a plan, I'm also open to opportunities I am not yet aware of. Here's to the future!
What I’ll miss most about Three Rivers is:
While I know that our recent pandemic shutdown impacted life in many ways, including the full experience of college life. I'm grateful that I was enrolled at Three Rivers. There is a closeness and a connectivity among Student Clubs and the Student Programs office that helped keep many of us moving forward through the uncertainty of it all with the hope that maybe, just maybe we can help ease some of what people are trying to navigate.
I will miss the community that came with attending Three Rivers.
Congratulations, I know we have only recently started working together in SGA this semester and last, but in this short time I’ve grown to look forward to seeing you at our weekly meetings. You’re always so happy and nice! You should be extremely proud! I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.
