Nursing, A.S.Year of Graduation:
2021I wanted to earn my degree because:
It was time I answered my calling to become a nurse. Despite the various occupations I've been employed in over the years, I never achieved a feeling of fulfillment, got the sense that what I was doing was meaningful or making a positive difference in the lives of others. I knew I was ready to leave my comfort zone behind and accept the challenge of doing more with my life and be a role model for my son.
While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:
My family. Without their generous support throughout my schooling, I wouldn't have made it through. I could not have done this without them.
GG- You inspired me with your tenacious unapologetic outlook, fearlessness, and authenticity. I hope to someday be half the nurse you were.
Nana- For always believing in me and telling me how proud you were of me.
Lukas-You’ll never know just how much you changed my life for the better. You give me a reason to get up every day and to work my hardest to make a better life for us. I’ll love you always and forever.
I’d like to give a shout out to:
I want to thank each of the TRCC Nursing program's faculty. With special thanks to Edith Ouellette, Cheryl Gilot, Sue Turner, Cindy Arpin, Karen Anastasiou, Denise Cortigiano, Melissa Neil, Kate MacKenzie, Bernadette Marshall, and my advisor, Lillian Rafeildt, for all of their support and guidance along the way.
What I like best about my degree program and what it means to me is:
Hardships I've experienced in the past have allowed me to appreciate different perspectives and develop a greater sense of gratitude, compassion, and consideration for others, as well as the perseverance, to overcome obstacles that at many times seemed impossible. I want to encourage and support others to do the same.
Our healthcare system today is broken and disjointed, and I want to be part of the solution. By earning my degree and pursuing a career in nursing, I will have the privilege of caring for various types of people in the healthcare setting, each with their own unique situations and individual needs. I will be entrusted to advocate for individuals to have the access and equal opportunity to receive the quality healthcare services they need, provide non-biased care and comfort, and provide education to assist those in managing and attaining their optimal health. I ultimately want to empower individuals to live healthy, happy, and fulfilling lives. Being of service to those in need is my calling and what I believe I am best suited to do.
What I enjoyed most about my experience at Three Rivers Community College was:
Having the opportunity to provide nursing care during clinical rotations and administering COVID-19 vaccinations to the public
Clubs, volunteer work, organizations that I participated in while at Three Rivers included:
SNA
Class Treasurer
Uncas Health District-Medical Reserve Corp, Vaccination Team
I plan to use my degree to:
Make a positive difference in the lives of my patients and their families.
Now that I have completed college, I’m most looking forward to:
Well, I haven't actually completed college. I will be pursuing my BSN next and possibly continuing my education further after that. As I am about to achieve this next level of my career goals by earning my degree and becoming licensed as a registered nurse, I am eager to join the nursing profession and gain valuable experience.
What I’ll miss most about Three Rivers is:
The socialization and support of my peers and instructors
