Three Rivers College Foundation Awards Over $425,000 in Scholarships

The Three Rivers College Foundation’s twenty-seventh annual Scholarship Awards were announced on Monday, May 18,2020. Generous contributions led to over $425,000 in scholarships awarded to a record-breaking 174 students.

Betty Baillargeon, Director of Institutional of Advancement stated, “An unprecedented time in our country forced us to cancel our in-person celebration. While we all do our part to stop the spread of the corona virus, we still have much to celebrate, especially these deserving students. So, we have posted a special presentation acknowledging all of the students, their scholarships and the donors.” The video presentation can be found at www.threerivers.edu/2020scholarshipvideo .

The total scholarships awarded came to just over $425,000, which includes $50,000 in summer scholarships. The majority of the scholarships support students through the fall and spring semesters, but many students who have exhausted their financial aid and cannot afford summer courses benefit from the summer scholarships which helps expedite their path to graduation.

Golfers enjoyed a beautiful day at the 22nd annual golf classic.

On Monday, September 16, the Three Rivers College Foundation hosted the 22nd Annual Three Rivers College Foundation Golf Classic. 81 golfers played at the tournament, which was held at Fox Hopyard in East Haddam, Connecticut. More than $43,000 was raised for the foundation this year, and in the 20 years that the event has been held, over one million dollars has been raised.

The funds are used to fill immediate needs that arise not only for Three Rivers students, but also for the entire college.

Three Rivers Alum Creates Endowed Scholarship in Honor of her Grandmother

Three Rivers Community College Director of Student Activities Alycia Ziegler recently established The Blanche Berté Illenberg Memorial Scholarship in honor of her grandmother. Alycia explained that although her grandmother had only a high school diploma, she always advocated for education and continuously supported Alycia along her own educational journey. This new scholarship will be managed by the Three Rivers College Foundation.

Three Rivers Alum Establishes Endowed Scholarship

Blanche Berté Illenberg spent her entire life giving to others and 20 of years of her career working with individuals with intellectual disabilities. Some of Alycia’s earliest memories of her grandmother were of her welcoming people into her home over the holidays. In addition to a career in public service, Blanche was a volunteer EMT & EMT instructor and a member of her local orchid society. She survived lymphoma three times, and Alycia believes that this was a contributing factor to her grandmother’s passion for helping others around her.

Alycia received her associate degree from Three Rivers and understands the positive impact that financial support can have on a student’s life. Three Rivers is an institution that values community and because Blanche shared these same values, Alycia felt that establishing an endowed scholarship was the best way to honor her grandmother. A guiding principle that Blanche repeated to Alycia that helped shape her into the person that she is today is that “helping people in need is not giving a hand out, it is giving a hand up.” Alycia plans to increase this endowment to the point that it will provide a deserving student with a full tuition and fees scholarship.

TRCC Foundation Awards Record Number Of Scholarships

The Three Rivers College Foundation awarded more than $325,000 in scholarship money at the annual Scholarship Night held Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at Three Rivers Community College. In addition, over 45 Departmental and Competitive Scholarships were awarded. (more…)
